Mary: I've thought of this a few times, what does Spurgeon believe that is in oposition to our beliefs here? Is it mostly the duty faith belief?

Spurgeon accepted the perspective of Fuller on most of the key issues, though there are some fine differences of course as Spurgeon always attempted to synthesize the historic Calvinism of Dort with that of the Fullerist strain. Based on what statements are quoted, Spurgeon can be pressed into any mold of alleged belief.

The controversy over "transferred righteousness" is a big one in understanding the various positions; we have been through it in the "Christ made sin" discussion a few years ago. :)

Spurgeon was Fuller's champion. It was Spurgeon that turned Fullerism into what is modern day evangelicalism.

I am thankful in part to the conferences that have highlighted the waves of post reformation heresy!:)

Interestingly, God was in control of Fuller as He is in control of all the others with their new ideas.

The reality is that though God ordains preachers to preach His Word, we are to take the message, and weigh it against the scripture. We need to grow in the grace and knowledge of God (through His Word), that by Grace, we are more conformed to the will of God.

Fuller sought to remove the dunghill of High Calvinism. I rather like this particular dunghill.:D

Hyper-calvinism is a tag that is attached to make people who would dare to adhere to this gospel, feel like an extreme nutcase and as if they have departed "orthodox" Christianity. There is nothing more lovely than hearing a man preach who has been cleansed by the grace of God, and changed by His power. Fullerism is not needed to "get them in". God's power through the faithful preaching of His Word is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. Praise the Lord!

Blessings to you ALWAYS,

Kevin ;)
