Today worldwide there is this fanatical eschatological focus on the Nation of Israel mainly from the heretical Dispensational Premillennialists, with John Hagee being at the top of their heretical mountain. However, all premillennialists are to be faulted in their misunderstanding of the role and purpose of National Israel in the Old Covenant and how their purpose was fulfilled and finally put to an end when Christ arrived on the scene, died, buried, rose again, and gave the promise of the Holy Spirit as a sign and seal of this fulfillment.
The purpose of this article is not to discuss the different eschatological views that are with us today, but rather to show the effects of an ultimate hardening of a people by God.
Historically, there was never a more evil manifestation of the hardening of God toward a specific people from the start of creation and up till the end of time.
The pinnacle and zenith of hardening was fully manifested when National Israel rejected and provoked Imperial Rome to crucify our Lord Jesus Christ. God in the flesh.
Historically we have witnessed and read despicable acts of cruelty by men against men, but these acts were committed by sinners against sinners.
These acts pale in comparison to the acts committed by the Jews against God and His Christ.
These acts are not sinners against sinners anymore but rather sinners against an almighty and sinless God, therefore manifesting in themselves the ultimate hardness of heart/mind and soul.
Friends, before opening the web links supplied at the end of this article, please read this whole article. Not only is there a hatred of Jesus Christ by all Zionist Christ rejecting Jews, but also a hatred of Paul the Apostle by some messianic Jews of today.
A word of caution! Those who are in love with Jesus Christ, after reading the material in the supplied links, strong emotions may arise. So I suggest you pray.
The trickle of elect ethnic Jews whom God has called unto salvation are not the focus of this paper.
Before starting, let us learn a little botanical information about Fig Trees.
The fig tree (ficus) is perennial. The Common Fig (ficus carica) is a temperate species native to southwest Asia and the Mediterranean region from Afghanistan to Portugal.
There are about 850 species. The specific identification of many of the species can be difficult, but figs as a group are relatively easy to recognize.
The fig tree depending on it's geographical location, climate conditions, and elevation, normally produce fruit (a crop), two times per season. A season can be as long as ten to twelve months. Especially in and around the region of Jerusalem due to it's higher elevation.
The early season fruit is referred to as breba. The second crop is considered the main crop and is produced during fall.
Foliage: Fig leaves are bright green, single, alternate and large (to 1ft length).
Mark 11:12-14, And on the morrow, they having come forth from Bethany, he hungered, 13. and having seen a fig-tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he shall find anything in it, and having come to it, he found nothing except leaves, for it was not a time of figs. 14and Jesus answering said to it, `No more from thee -- to the age -- may any eat fruit;' and his disciples were hearing.
For Jesus to have seen leaves from a far distance, these leaves would have had to been close to their mature length. Due to the characteristics of the fig tree, the fruit bud grows out from the stem either prior or simultaneously with the leave bud.
This particular fig tree should have had edible fruit under normal circumstances. See pictures below.
Looking at the general chronological setting of these events, we see that this occured during the week before His crucifixion.
Christ's crucifixion is directly linked to the sacred Passover Feast. 14th Aviv (Nisan) Mar./Apr. Unleavened Bread. 15th-21st Aviv (Nisan) Mar./Apr. Which is a 7 day feast.
The fig tree should have born it's first and early fruit of that new season. But it did not. Why?
for it was not a time of figs. Some have suggested that this statement means the harvest was not ready. This conclusion is ludicrous! Firstly, Jesus seeing the leaves, naturally expected fruit to be on that tree. So would the disciples. Is not Jesus the creator of that tree? He is the Master Botanist.
This tree was unique in that it was symbolic of the Nation of Israel. God/Christ purposely through direct intervention and divine causation, forbade this tree to bear fruit. Just as He hardened Israel to not bear fruit and ultimately reject Him.
verses 19-23 and when evening came, he was going forth without the city. 20. And in the morning, passing by, they saw the fig-tree having been dried up from the roots, 21.and Peter having remembered saith to him, `Rabbi, lo, the fig-tree that thou didst curse is dried up.'
Under normal botanical and horticultural circumstances, a fig tree that is severed or killed at it's roots would take several weeks to dry up and wither due to the still existing moisture (water) that is contained in the trunk, branches, stems, and leaves, But again, we are not talking about normal growing or withering circumstances. Christ miraculously altered that fig tree. HE CURSED IT. Just like He cursed Israel.
22. And Jesus answering saith to them, `Have faith of God; 23. for verily I say to you, that whoever may say to this mount, Be taken up, and be cast into the sea, and may not doubt in his heart, but may believe that the things that he saith do come to pass, it shall be to him whatever he may say.
Above is our Lords presentation of the cursing of National Israel.
They who have been given the task to be the caretakers of the vineyard have failed for they bore no fruit. These had only a semblance of righteousness (leaves) but it was a vile and wicked self righteousness (unfruitful). A tree without fruit is useless.
Our Lords entrance to the city of Jerusalem was at the appointed time that ultimate Righteousness (Our Lord ) should confront ultimate wickedness (National Israel). No gray areas here. Ultimate Light confronts Ultimate Darkness.
`No more from thee -- to the age -- may any eat fruit; Christ tells his disciples that the day has come that from hence His followers should not partake of their wicked fruit anymore. National Israel is finished.
The tree of National Israel is dried up from the roots the fig-tree that thou didst curse is dried up.'
National Israel is and forever will be dead, hardened, and useless. It was time for those whom Christ will call to be a branch connected to the life-giving vine which is Christ the King of the true Israel. All those in Him are the real and true Israel of God. The shadow gives way to the real/substance.
Jesus was effectively denouncing Israels false and hypocritical worship of God. With the cursing of the fig tree, Jesus was symbolically denouncing Israel as a nation.
Christ our master teacher already anticipated their (His disciples) dilemma as Jews. For he said to have faith and believe without doubting that they too can cast off into the sea Israel from themselves for it was cursed, dead, fruitless, and worthless.
The Ultimate Hardening of Israel
Below are segments from all four Gospels to fully magnify Israels ultimate wickedness and hardness.
Comments in blue
And the chief priests, and the elders, and all the council, were seeking false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death, for many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike
These wicked ones hardened by God were not seeking after truth, but rather false witnesses to aid and abet their own treachery.
and Jesus was silent. And the chief priest answering said to him, `I adjure thee, by the living God, that thou mayest say to us, if thou art the Christ -- the Son of God.'
saying, `If thou be the Christ, tell us.' And he said to them, `If I may tell you, ye will not believe; Reprobates will never believe in truth.
Jesus saith to him, `Thou hast said; nevertheless I say to you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds, of the heaven.' Then the chief priest rent his garments, saying, -- `He hath spoken evil; what need have we yet of witnesses? lo, now ye heard his evil speaking; Hatred
what think ye?' and they answering said, `He is worthy of death.' Injustice.
Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, and others did slap, Lack of respect. Haters
saying, `Declare to us, O Christ, who he is that struck thee?' Wicked provocation.
And morning having come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so as to put him to death; Treachery
and having bound him, they did lead away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor. And having risen, the whole multitude of them did lead him to Pilate, and began to accuse him, saying, `This one we found perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying himself to be Christ a king.' More lies, slander, and false accusations.
And Pilate said unto the chief priests, and the multitude, `I find no fault in this man;'
A Gentile (goyim) compelled by God to speak truth.
And Pilate having called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people, said unto them, `Ye brought to me this man as perverting the people, and lo, I before you having examined, found in this man no fault in those things ye bring forward against him;
A Gentile (goyim) compelled by God to speak truth.
no, nor yet Herod, for I sent you back unto him, and lo, nothing worthy of death is having been done by him;
Then Judas -- he who delivered him up -- having seen that he was condemned, having repented, brought back the thirty silverlings to the chief priests, and to the elders, saying, I did sin, having delivered up innocent blood;' and they said, `What -- to us? thou shalt see!' Judas a reprobate compelled by God to speak truth.
and they had then a noted prisoner, called Barabbas, and there was [one] named Barabbas, bound with those making insurrection with him, who had in the insurrection committed murder.
they therefore having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, `Whom will ye I shall release to you? Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?' for he had known that because of envy they had delivered him up.
Indeed ! They were envious because if they were to admit Christ was true, then that would also have been an admission of guilt on their part inferring they were wrong. These wicked ones will never ever do that.
And as he is sitting on the tribunal, his wife sent unto him, saying, `Nothing -- to thee and to that righteous one, for many things did I suffer to-day in a dream because of him.'
Pilate's wife even admitted Christ is Righteous.
And the chief priests and the elders did persuade the multitudes that they might ask for themselves Barabbas, and might destroy Jesus;
The blind leading the blind into treason against our Lord. They wanted a man like themselves who was wicked a murderer.
and the governor answering said to them, `Which of the two will ye [that] I shall release to you?' And they said, `Barabbas.' Pilate saith to them, `What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?' They all say to him, `Let be crucified!'
National Israel hates God and righteousness even to this very day!
And the governor said, `Why, what evil did he?' and they were crying out the more, saying, `Let be crucified.' And he a third time said unto them, `Why, what evil did he? no cause of death did I find in him; having chastised him, then, I will release [him].' 23And they were pressing with loud voices asking him to be crucified, and their voices, and those of the chief priests, were prevailing,
And Pilate having seen that it profiteth nothing, but rather a tumult is made, having taken water, he did wash the hands before the multitude, saying, `I am innocent from the blood of this righteous one; ye -- ye shall see;' and all the people answering said, `His blood [is] upon us, and upon our children!'
Yes indeed his blood will be upon them. For they will be a testimony and example to the world forever of a people that has utter contempt and hatred toward God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
and Jesus having turned unto them, said, `Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves weep ye, and for your children; for, lo, days do come, in which they shall say, Happy the barren, and wombs that did not bare, and paps that did not give suck; then they shall begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us, and to the hills, Cover us; -- for, if in the green tree they do these things -- in the dry what may happen?'
and those passing by were speaking evil of him, wagging their heads, and saying, `Thou that art throwing down the sanctuary, and in three days building [it], save thyself; if Son thou art of God, come down from the cross.' And in like manner also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, said, Others he saved; himself he is not able to save! If he be King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe him; he hath trusted on God, let Him now deliver him, if He wish him, because he said -- Son of God I am;' with the same also the robbers, who were crucified with him, were reproaching him.
"for, if in the green tree (leaves only) they do these things -- in the dry (cursed and withered tree) what may happen?'
This is what is happening today in the dry!
