"Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13

  1. In Christ Jesus

    by on 05-16-2010 at 04:25 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)

    To understand such a portion as this intelligently and experimentally, is to glory indeed in a Covenant JEHOVAH, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. He is the alone glory of all those whom He in love pitched upon before all worlds, whom He has redeemed to Himself by the precious blood of the Son of His love, whom He brings to Himself by the grace and power of His Indwelling Spirit. These are brought into the loving enjoyment of Himself by the testimony of grace which He has made sure to all the ...

  2. John 1:12

    by on 06-13-2009 at 01:02 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: (John 1:12, NKJV)

    What does this mean? Is this an argument against sovereign grace as the Pharisees would have it?

    Just look at the next verse to see sovereign grace established:

    Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:13, NKJV)

    What of verse 12?

  3. Tools for God's Glory

    by on 06-09-2009 at 12:29 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)

    I thought this was a pretty good reminder of God's sovereignty, if we think about this in terms of the gospel...

    -------------------------------

    "Let us go back to Maimonides, who continues:

    'If Divine wisdom does not create anything in vain, if man is the most sublime of all creatures under the moon and his purpose is to cultivate the higher cognition, why has G-d brought forth all the people who do not attain such knowledge? After all, ...

  4. Praise God

    by on 06-05-2009 at 10:08 AM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    Praise God,

    Lord of all;
    Master of all;
    Author of peace.

    The elect of God are loved with an everlasting love.

    All things are arranged for their benefit.

    All of life is an unfolding of wisdom.

    How marvelous are His ways;
    how profound are His deeds;
    how mighty is His judgment.

    God has gathered us in His hand;
    His power encircles us;
    His love is a fortress.

  5. Ezekiel 26

    by on 07-07-2008 at 01:00 AM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    Since some here are taking a look at Ezekiel (including myself), I thought I'd provide what I think is a nice summary and defense for the prophecy of Ezekiel 26--the fall of Tyre.

  6. Hannah's Prayer Part 2

    by on 05-29-2008 at 02:19 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    I posted the words of Hannah awhile back which I believed demonstrated God's sovereignty over all things. I found this further note on her words that I wanted to include.

    -------------------------------------

    "First of all, Hannah is joyous over the fact at who God is. Notice, how she says in verse, "My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation." Hannah is a ...

  7. God of Power

    by on 05-14-2008 at 05:58 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    One of the most disgusting things about this world, especially the religious world, is the type of powerless, feminine god they've created for themselves. And if this wasn't bad enough, they slap this description upon [who they say is] "the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

    Anyone who can read the scriptural accounts should be able to see that the God of scripture is a God of power. He gets what He wants, when He wants it.

    And all the inhabitants of the earth ...

  8. Hannah's Prayer

    by on 05-03-2008 at 01:13 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    I started reading 1 Samuel today and came across a lovely word from Hannah in chapter 2, which I believe exemplifies the beauty and truth of God's sovereignty...

    -----------------------------(NIV)

    My heart rejoices in the Lord;
    in the Lord my horn is lifted high.

    My mouth boasts over my enemies,
    for I delight in your deliverance.

    There is no one holy like the Lord;
    there is no one besides you;
    there is no Rock like our ...

  9. Two Gospels in the World

    by on 04-07-2008 at 01:31 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    There are only two types of "gospels" in this world. One is false and one is true. One is miserable and uncertain news and the other is good and certain news.

    These two gospels are the gospel of self--and the gospel of God....The gospel of works--and the gospel of grace.

    When you say you are nothing without Jesus Christ--Did His work alone save you? Or did it mean nothing until YOU came along and made good use of it by your repentance and the like? In that ...

  10. Thoughts from a Homeschooled Man

    by on 04-03-2008 at 12:03 PM ("Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13)
    Below is a short post from a man who experienced homseschooling. I thought he had some interesting comments. But be wary, the author is rather blunt, which some may find offensive. Read at your own risk.

    ------------------------------------------

    Thoughts from a Homeschooled Man

    First off, hello. I'm Ryan. I was homeschooled from birth - high school. Neither of my parents were college graduates, and I had no tutors other than them. ...
