Introductory Note: This story is parabolic in character. It expresses truth that represents the final reality, according to the Christian scriptures. Bible references are selective and by no means exhaustive.

Jim was absolutely drained! He had been in meetings all afternoon and evening with the conference president, explaining why the number of baptisms on his quarterly statistical report had been lower than expected. He sighed in frustration at the apparent lack of appreciation for his good record of the past 16 years! After all, he was one of the most successful pastors in the history of the conference. Yet one low quarter was causing the leadership to question his methodology and perseverance! How unfair and judgmental this seemed.

The Gospel or “good news” about Christ and salvation is not about what God is doing. The Gospel is about what Christ has done. The Gospel comes as an announcement to God’s people that those who believe this message are already part of God’s kingdom. Those that believe were justified by Christ when he lived the perfect life of righteousness and suffered to His death on the cross over two thousand years ago.
Jn 19:28, (KJV), After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

Jn 19:30, (KJV), When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Heb 9:12, (KJV), Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

1 Cor 15:3-4, (KJV), For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
You see, the Gospel is a simple message and comes as “glad tidings” (Rom 10:15) to God’s chosen vessels of mercy (Rom 9:23). Believers look back to the cross of Christ for all of their salvation and nothing else. They do not look to any experience or any other event in their lives.

For many in the tolerant, cultured world of evangelical religion, there is no scum more vile than a harsh, judgmental, pontificating buffoon who goes about judging whether others are "true Christians."

Such a one is seen as patently bad, and leaves a sour taste and a sick stomach in his preachy wake, cutting a smelly swath through people who have learned not to put God in the kind of box that can be shaken, opened, and checked.

The question is, why are such lumps a part of the landscape? What keeps them going? Since no one likes them and they have the cuddliness of a sore porcupine, who feeds them?

As I am such a "judgmental" one, so called by more gentle, tolerant "Christians" than I can count ("See -he puts 'Christians' in quotation marks!"), I would like to venture an answer, warning the reader first to make sure he or she is sitting down, with some smelling salts handy.

What keeps me going, harsh, intolerant pill that I am, is this: I am afraid of being judgmental - toward God.

Faced with the prospect of being judgmental toward a man's words and being judgmental toward the Word of God, I choose the former, and run from the latter, although I would have many, many more friends if I did not do this.

Perhaps I would even have you, dear reader, for a friend. As it is, your initial reaction to the title of this essay may have been to take it and read it so as to recognize better and avoid people like me, as if we were not easy enough to spot already. But you just can't be too careful when it comes to knowing the modus operandi of a religious psychopath, so you read on.

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.” - John 6:44 ESV
Vincent Cheung, an outspoken and widely known Christian of our day says this regarding God’s sovereignty in our salvation:
“you think I will tell you, God has sent Christ to make salvation possible (emphasis mine) for everyone, even you, so that in the end you will determine your own destiny…… But God has not left even this for the sinner to determine. Jesus says that no one can be saved except the Father has chosen him; unless God first shows you mercy, you will not and cannot choose him. Thus even in this aspect you are powerless, and you are completely at His mercy.” (V. Cheung).
A constant occurrence within modern day evangelicalism is the notion that the God of Scripture is in Heaven wringing His hands, crying, because His creation will not come to Him for salvation, and that He has done all that He can to save them. Within this view is the thinking that the will of man is untouchable by God, and that He will not force Himself on His creation; that He will only try to “woo” people to come to His Son Jesus, not that He will as Scripture teaches “draw” His people to His Son irresistibly. As we move forward in this short essay a case will be made for the absolute sovereignty of God in salvation, and a hope that with the apostle Paul you will say: “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” - Phil. 2:13 ESV

By Gery Schmidt: Is the gospel something to be offered to the unregenerate? A great many Christians believe so. It has long been maintained that Christ himself, or eternal life, is to be offered unto the lost for their acceptance or rejection. However, we are convinced that the very concept of the gospel being an offer made unto the unregenerate represents a departure from the Scriptures in at least the following four things: first, what the gospel is; secondly, the purpose or utility of the gospel; thirdly, the doctrine of total depravity; and fourthly, a proper understanding of God's justice.

First, the notion that the gospel is an offer represents a misunderstanding and perversion of what the gospel is. The word gospel represents the greek word euaggelion, which literally means "good news." But what is the good news? Essentially, the good news is that Christ Jesus came into the world to save his people from their sins. (Mt. 1:21, Lk. 2:10,11; 1 Tim. 1:15) The very heart of the gospel is the person and work of Jesus Christ. And the gospel itself declares that the incarnation of the Son of God had a definite end in view, namely, the salvation of the elect, and none else. Yet the view that the gospel is an offer contravenes this Scriptural fact. Underlying the premise that the gospel ...

Recently, a friend referred me to a blog post written by R. Scott Clark entitled Hyper-Calvinism, Rationalism and Antipredestinarians. Here is the link (http://heidelblog.wordpress.com/2008...m-rationalism/ ) Throughout this blog Clark attempts to show how the free offer of the gospel is essential to sound doctrine and correct understand of true Calvinism. Those that hold to the free offer of the gospel basically say that salvation is offered to all men, even the reprobate. In Clark’s blog, he bashes those that reject the free offer of the gospel with weak arguments from every source but scripture. In this article I intend to examine some of the statements from Clark and explain why his view point and belief in the free offer of the Gospel and mystery is incorrect.

God is jealous, and Jehovah revenges; Jehovah revenges and is a possessor of wrath. Jehovah takes vengeance against His foes, and He keeps wrath against His enemies. -Nahum 1:2
It is always interesting when we compare the God of the bible to the god professed by most of Christendom. In most Christian churches across the world, God is shown to be only a God of love, mercy, grace, and peace. This is emphasized so much that for someone to even hint at a possibility of God having wrath, anger, jealously, and vengeance is to be marginalized and ridiculed among many of the churches today. To mention these attributes of God brings stigma to those of us who seek to follow and worship God in all His perfect attributes. To blatantly ignore certain attributes of God is in effect creating your own god within your mind who is more acceptable than the God revealed through the Scriptures. It is my belief that when people and churches diminish God’s attributes such as his wrath, anger, vengeance, and hate, it will lead them into doctrinal error. This is very noticeable in the doctrines of election and reprobation, where many years of denying certain attributes of God has resulted in churches which emphasis a universal love of God and free will within man directly contradictory to scripture. While ultimately this denial of some of God’s attributes is due to most of these individuals and churches being unregenerate it is still important for us to examine the scriptures that speak to these often overlooked and forgotten aspects of God’s nature. If we truly want to follow and worship God then we need to not ignore part of who He is and in effect create a God of our own imagination.

One day, as I was walking by a group of "Christians" that were in my neighborhood, one man in the group came up to me and yelled, “Jesus loves you” and shook my hand. This group was on their way to some sort of prayer meeting at a nearby house and embolden by their numbers they felt it was necessary to confront random strangers with their pseudo-evangelism statements and techniques. Given that I know the neighbor they were going to is of the Charismatic persuasion and commonly uses trickery and manipulation to convince people into following Jesus I wasn’t too surprised by their actions. They are very hard at work spreading their false gospel of works and becoming very bold in how many souls they have personally led to Christ. It amazes me how ignorant of the bible and the true gospel these “Christians” truly are.

Acts 13 is a perfect example of true gospel preaching. In verses 16-41 Paul clearly lays out the Gospel in all its glory.

Of this man's offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised. Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And as John was finishing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.' "Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death,

Romans 3:10-18 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; - 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. - 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." - 13 "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips." - 14 "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness." - 15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood; - 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, - 17 and the way of peace they have not known." - 18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

The apostle Paul quotes from several different passages from Scripture including: Psalm 14, Psalm 53, Psalm 5, Psalm 140, Psalm 10, Isaiah 59:7-8, and Psalm 36:1. Paul’s main point in quoting all these passages is to emphasis the point of that no person ever has been righteous in the sight of God and this has been shown from many scriptures throughout the Old Testament. Paul is clearly showing how all men in and of themselves are never righteous and deserve the wrath of God. Righteousness can not be found within men and has never been found coming from man. Everything that proceeds from man’s nature is evil and against God. These verses are a clear indictment against the human race, whom stand completely guilty before the righteous God.

Do you think you are called to preach? Do you know a zealous man who thinks he is? So what is “this calling” of which we hear often spoken? All throughout the evangellyfish churchianity world, young men get this burning in their bosom that they are “called to preach.” My question for all those that think they are called is this… “PREACH WHAT!?”

What exactly are these men called to preach? They think they are called to join the preaching profession that is! They think they are called to have a bunch of people pay them a salary for life for simply getting up every Sunday and spewing filth from their pulpits. What’s amazing is that the deceived keep shelling out thousands of dollars to listen to trash. After all, if they can help contribute to the salvation of souls, maybe they too will be rewarded for their efforts in heaven. They cannot escape the self-righteous works mentality.

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. Psalm 41:13

    Introduction

The concept that God is eternal is widely known and professed by most Christians today. However, it seems that in reality most people who claim that God is eternal do not truly understand the many implications this has on understanding Christian doctrine and practice. It is essential that we have a clear picture of the eternal God and how God in eternity works. It is very easy for our human minds to begin to see God ONLY acting within the constraints of time. This will inevitably lead into error within doctrine and result in a God who is less that God. It is important to affirm that God does indeed work within time and is constantly doing many things everyday. The best instance of God working within time is the whole incarnation of Christ on Earth. ...

From the current dialogue and responses from some who participate on this website, there seems to be quite an objection to the Eternal Justification view, with all it’s natural soteriological implications.

These objections however stem from how one determines reality. There are two basic foundational views. Of course there are off shoots and extremes to each of these two views, however to keep it simple for now, I will only discuss the two basics.

    Objectivism
    vs. Subjectivism

The Objective View -A Short Definition

Objectivism, or metaphysical objectivism, is the view that there is a reality or realm of objects and facts existing wholly independent of the mind. Stronger versions of this claim might hold that there is only one correct description of this reality; they may or may not hold that we have any knowledge of it. If it is true (and I believe it is) that reality is independent of the mind, the reality of objectivism is thus inclusive of objects which one may not know about and are not the intended objects of mental acts.

    Introduction

I’m back from the 2006 annual Eager Avenue Grace Church conference, and I can honestly say that I had an enjoyable time. Even with the travel delays and inconveniences, I’m still very thankful for the time of refreshing and Gospel preaching that I was privileged to experience. I have a better understanding of the controversies, disputes, and understandings of men concerning important doctrine.

There were a few surprises as well! I never expected to meet Mike McInnis (editor of Grace Gazette), David Alvord, or Steve Baloga! These are all men that I have had e-mail correspondence with and yet had no idea that they were even aware of the EAGC conference or were even living in close proximity to Albany, GA.

I also was privileged to meet Ken Wimer, Bill Parker, and David Simpson - all fine stewards of the Gospel of an accomplished salvation. It was nice to finally meet them after hearing so many good things about them as well as reading their material for some time now. In particular, I was impressed with Ken Wimer’s sermon on Sunday where he taught on the nature of Christ’s substitution at the cross. It was the first time that I have ever heard this taught so boldly and clearly. I’ve heard a lot of sermons in my life, but that was one of the best in my opinion.

Part I: Are the wicked a second ransom insuring the eternal security of the saints?
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. (Gen. 3:15, NKJV)
No expositor has ever questioned that this passage in scripture is the first mention in linear time of the doctrine of redemption in Christ. But how many have really examined its implications? Very few. Most brush over it with astonishingly brief exposition and go straight to other ‘more important’ considerations. But the first redemptive promise of God in linear time contains vital and eternal truths rewarding only those spirits who truly and passionately seek the One God as the author of scripture! Others will miss out. Most in previous generations have missed the implications of this passage. Most will continue to miss it for many generations to come!

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. -John 20:31

John is the only book of scripture addressed to the world at large, including unbelievers. Therefore we would do well to examine the typical methods and emphases of evangelicalism and compare them to the apostolic testimony.

    1. Pious special pleading.

Evangelicalism is full of the use of persuasive technique, the most common of which consists of a pious special pleading for the salvation of souls. The evangelist sheds public tears over the prospect of a single soul being eternally lost, then pleads and urges all to receive Jesus Christ as the only savior from sin and hell. In some churches this occurs at every service. A strong belief exists that souls must be COMPELLED into the kingdom or we have failed in our testimony. Some go so far as to say that our own salvation lies in doubt if we do not agonize publicly and plead personally for any soul who is not yet a believer.

The gospel of John has no such emphasis. The facts regarding Christ’s identity as God and saving work on behalf of sinners are plainly stated for all to read and believe or scorn. A passionate hope is expressed that the reader will believe and enter life everlasting. ...

As a person who is known as a high grace predestinarian, the most common accusation I face is the lie that my high grace friends and I are anti-evangelical. This charge is slanderous and a complete mischaracterization of me. Those who often fling this accusation against me often have not taken the time to dialog with me about my beliefs or offer to sit down and study the topic of evangelism with me or my other high grace friends. It seems they are content to cast reproach upon us from their lofty “evangelical” position of authority as pastors, “missionaries”, and other unbiblical “leadership positions.”

What is the basis for these attacks? I propose that it all stems from an unbiblical understanding of evangelism. Today, evangelism is equated with “soul winning” and an elaborate “plan of salvation.” Modern “evangelists” believe that they have a duty to get men converted to Christianity. When this form of proselytizing is merged with a perverted form of calvinistic theology, the result is a form of Arminianism.

I do not intend to deal with the vast majority of religionists such as the southern baptist free willers, the pentecostals, or most “evangelicals.” These are out and out pelagian; and history, as well as scripture has clearly condemned these movements as anti-christ. I intend to deal with the true Arminians of today and they are usually known as “reformed evangelicals” or “evangelical calvinists”. Their religion is no less blasphemous and flesh pleasing than that of their pelagian brothers. The only difference is they hope to deceptively hide their satanic practices with “sovereign grace” language. Harsh words? Absolutely! I have nothing but contempt for the “evangelism tactics” of conditional calvinists.

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. - Jer. 31:3
God’s love to His precious elect did not begin in time. It did not begin with any event. It does not depend on the conversion of the elect person to the Gospel but upon God’s pleasure in His crucified, buried, and resurrected Son.

Can you get your mind around this simple concept? God never ever had any disposition toward His people except Love! It’s eternal. It’s everlasting. It’s Foundational. It’s unconditional! All of God’s acts of kindness flow from this great Love.

Election is a fruit of God’s love. Adoption is a fruit of God’s love. Justification is a fruit of God’s love. Sanctification, Regeneration, Faith and Assurance, Perseverence, Resurrection, Glorification and all of salvation all flow from this immeasurable love!

It has been reasoned by many religionists that God hates his people until they are converted in time. This is a blasphemous teaching right up there with the teaching of “common grace” and may be even worse. Oh how horrible to think of such things! Did Jesus actually hate His people when He hung on the cross? No of course not! That was the ultimate act of love and to suggest otherwise is to profane and curse Christ. ...

John Gill wrote in his masterpiece, a Body of Doctrinal Divinity, that “…God's will to elect, is the election of his people, so his will to justify them, is the justification of them;” (John Gill, A Body of Doctrinal Divinity, Book II, Chapter V, Section II.)

God’s word is so powerful that whatever He declares, it’s accomplished the moment He says it. He has no need to wait for the results. We, being temporal creatures, must wait for things to be accomplished when we set our mind to something. If we decide to do something, we must allocate time to our endeavors and wait for the results. But God, being the Eternal Almighty has no need to wait for things to be accomplished in time. He created time and sees it all at once. There is not a moment in time that escapes His constant scrutiny – past, present, or future! And if He has decreed to Justify His elect by the blood of Christ, then He needs not wait as an observer for things to be accomplished in time.

Christ is said to be the lamb slain before the foundation of the world (Rev 13:8). Now do I believe that Christ was “physically” slain in eternity? Absolutely not. Christ, the physical man was crucified in time on the cross. He was slain in time. That is how we see and understand things – in time. But Oh what sweet joy it brings to my soul to know that from all eternity the Father looked upon Christ as slain for the justification of His people! The Lord has always constituted His people as righteous in Christ from all eternity. His people were never constituted as wicked sinners as Christ was their mediator from before the foundations of the world.

Is the Bible a mystery? Are doctrines such as heaven, hell, God’s omniscience and immutability, eternity, God's Predetermining of all things, the Trinity, and imputation of sin and righteousness to be considered as mysteries? It is considered humble to suggest that these things are mysteries and cannot be understood. But I contend that such a claim is pure arrogance and very dangerous! Just because a person cannot comprehend the propositions set forth by Scripture does not at all mean the Lord has not revealed understanding to someone else. It is prideful to suggest that men cannot comprehend what you cannot!

So what exactly is a mystery? As with anything, we must go to the Scriptures for understanding.
Mk 4:11, (KJV), And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Rom 11:25, (KJV), For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God... - Eph 2:8

It is true that all men have a responsibility or an obligation to believe the Lord and His Gospel. To not believe the record of Christ's accomplished work of salvation for His people is a terrible sin for which men will be held accountable. All men have a duty to bow before the Lord, to acknowledge Him as their Sovereign Creator, and to honor Him. But do men have a duty to be blessed? Are men responsible for the blessings which flow from Christ to His people? No, of course not! That is a ridiculous concept indeed! But saving faith is that blessed gift of God that gives men the ability to look to Christ and see that the benefits of His sacrificial work apply to them. It is a gift of assurance. To suggest otherwise is to take this wonderful gift of God and turn it into a work.

Those who insist on the doctrine of "duty-faith" suggest that all men have a responsibility to be saved. They suggest that those for whom Christ did not die are duty-bound to look to the Lord and believe that He loves them and that He died for them. Men are encouraged to believe a lie. So in order to be seen as honest men, these perverters of the Gospel reinvent the concept of atonement and twist it so that Christ's death becomes sufficient for all and efficient for only the elect. Salvation is not accomplished until it is applied. ...

Many professed Calvinists see no harm in the doctrine that Christ potentially saved all humankind through his atoning work. The number of popular theologians and pastors holding to an Amyraldian position is as high or higher than it has ever been. The salaried Calvinist teachers of the land reverence these celebrities with extremely unholy laud, while never preaching Bible predestination to the lost and rarely preaching it to their own congregations. Of course, no high-grace Calvinist will ever be quoted publicly by these men. Yet week after week, they laud popular evan-jelly-fish teachers from the pulpit and put their books on table display in the lobby. This is happening almost universally in churches that profess to be 100% Reformed in doctrine!

I, for one, am never convinced that an interest in hypothetical universalism is the fruit of Spirit-filled Bible study. The paradox hermeneutic used to support it is the same as that used to bolster free-will Pelagianism, Roman Catholicism, Lutheran sacramentalism, Wesleyan Arminianism, and gospel (Barthian) universalism. The exceptional and idomatic verses in scripture are quoted and dissected in such a way as to cast doubt upon aspects of the core gospel of the New Testament. Since I am convinced that all desire to cast disrepute on the apostolic kerygma is wicked, I believe that promoters of these teachings are searching the scriptures (like the Pharisees of old) to prove that the presuppositions they want to believe are true.
