"Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13

I thought this was a pretty good reminder of God's sovereignty, if we think about this in terms of the gospel...

-------------------------------

"Let us go back to Maimonides, who continues:

'If Divine wisdom does not create anything in vain, if man is the most sublime of all creatures under the moon and his purpose is to cultivate the higher cognition, why has G-d brought forth all the people who do not attain such knowledge? After all, we see that most people are without wisdom and strive for pleasure, and that the wise man who retreats from the world is rare among the many, occurring only once in an age.

[The answer is:] All these people live in order to help this one man, for if all people aspired to wisdom and studied philosophy (and no one dealt with material things) then the world would not go on, and the species of man would perish.'

Thus, there are two types of individuals. One type fulfills the purpose of his existence and enacts the purpose of the world, and the other enables the existence of these rare people by providing the needs for human existence. The function of the latter is essentially that of all other creations.

This is a chilling thought. There are relatively few people who contemplate the oneness of G-d. All the rest, who work in the fields, operate factories, teach the sciences, and practice their various professions are simply like the plants and animals that make Earth habitable for those who do contemplate the Oneness of G-d. If I do not contemplate the Oneness of G-d, I share a function with insects and grass."

Wow - I share these sentiments. While I don't know who this Twerski is, it is my opinion that the reprobate men are put on this earth in part for fulfilling God's purpose of raising up His elect in Christ.
