"Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." Proverbs 3:13

Two Gospels in the World

Rate this Entry
There are only two types of "gospels" in this world. One is false and one is true. One is miserable and uncertain news and the other is good and certain news.

These two gospels are the gospel of self--and the gospel of God....The gospel of works--and the gospel of grace.

When you say you are nothing without Jesus Christ--Did His work alone save you? Or did it mean nothing until YOU came along and made good use of it by your repentance and the like? In that case, YOU would be your "savior". You would be believing the gospel of self. God sent the Saviour to redeem His people--which He DID. (Gal 3:13) And being justified by His blood, they are saved from wrath (Romans 5:9) because they are NOT APPOINTED to it (1 Thess 5:9), hence Christ's coming being a manifestation of the grace the elect were given before the world even began. (2 Tim 1:9)

Please understand that it is only good news if Christ GOT THE JOB DONE. It's not good news if it's up to ME to "complete the job" and save myself with my works, thoughts, or attempts at obedience to commands of repentance. We can never do enough because all we have is filthy rags righteousness and corrupt flesh in the first place. Jesus calls salvation by self an impossibility. Only God Himself is the righteousness of His people.

Amen! Works or Grace! No synthesis!

Well said! I appreciate what you've written here. Grace loses all of its meaning if we have to "avail ourselves" of it!

    Jude 25
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
