Biography
Grew up in Northwood Iowa; ELC before the mergers; not "religious" until Dec '69; graduated twice from Iowa State. Marilyn agreed to marry me & together we raise 4 sons two of whom are believers. Cardinal fan since Enos Slaughter scored from first, on, yes it was, a single. Born again by "accepting Christ" on way to work; learned much during first 10 years; became a Calvinist upon reading Eph 1, Bondage of the Will, & Thomas & Steeles 5 points; learned to love Luther since I knew if faith came from me I was bound for hell, but I thought of myself as alone in beliefs, not knowing there were 10 thousand or so around me; then I drifted into an old childhood sin for years - returned to my vomit worse than before. I have now, as of March, '04, had first hand experience of God's grace in, for me, all its glory, as I had no desire nor will, to repent but he changed me over night, in the twinkling of an eye; I call it spiritual CPR (CPR does not work on the dead). Yesterday I tried to register but some questions were, & still are, impossible for me to answer. I have trouble with your view of the 66 books (even though I have heard Luther had a problem with James), imputation vs impart (which I tried to understand yesterday in too little time- but am open to, since, if you can follow my reasoning, I respect Geo Ella's writings on everything I have read of his: & Don Fortner, whom I do not much know, is a friend spiritually with Ella, and yesterday I read Fortner supports the guy who was kicked out of pastoring his church. But if hyper-C means denial of any or all of “common grace”, “duty-faith & well meant offer” per Andrew Fuller, & “God loves everyone” I gladly wear the tag. Plus: I have always “resented” Phil Johnson’s attacks on Gill, Huntington, Pink, & actually probably anyone else he tags, including now you: your reply, which I only read yesterday, to his first tirade, was spiritually beautiful. I, admittedly, have been taught & trust that the Bible, say the KJV translation, is God’s written Word; that is all I have to go on: I hypothesize it is true (to paraphrase Gordon Clark – a recent discovery). With it as my intellectual foundation, I have reason, I trust, to believe that God made me before, “the foundation of the world”, “of the elect”: that even with my years of “backsliding” – possibly even because of it: his jerking me out of it against my will, changing my will. So yes, I guess I have in some sense a paper pope, but God has used all sorts of men & even an ass to make himself known to his chosen ones; but, please include: except like you, I believe I have the subjective/objective(?) confirmation of, for example, Ephesians. I believe, with Owen, that regeneration is quite physical: after all “… what is the exceeding greatness of his power towards us who believe according to the working of his mighty power which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead … ”-, there should not be a comma prior to according; what could
