    Lightbulb Searching Together Eschatology Conference

    4th Searching Together Conference - July 24-27, 2003

Our next Searching Together conference will be a real hot potato! What does the Bible teach about the "Last Days"? As you know, there are many divergent views. Unfortunately, discussions on this subject will have often generated more heat than light. Our purpose in this conference will be to provide an open forum where such differing views on biblical eschatology, or "last things," can be presented and evaluated in an atmosphere of love and respect for one another.

We will schedule nine presentations. Cliff Bjork and I will each take a slot and we hope to have at least one representative from each of the major "isms" - Amillennialism, Postmillennialism, Premillennialism, Dispensationalism and Preterism. Speakers will be given about 50 minutes to present their perspectives, followed by a time of open dialogue and evaluation. If you would like to come to this conference and present your views, let us know as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly.

While those who attend will be responsible for their own for travel, lodging and meals, a few of our families will open their homes for hospitality. Our 3rd Conference was held in our Searching Together Bookstore. If there is a significant increase in attendance, we may arrange for a larger venue.

We hope and pray that this conference will provide a forum for coming to a deeper understanding of what the Scriptures teach about the future. There is certainly a great deal of confusion on this topic - not to mention rancor and division. We firmly believe that the only way believers can come to like-mindedness in such matters is through open discussion with an open Bible and an open mind in an open and loving atmosphere. Our intent is to provide just such a non-threatening environment for an honest and gracious airing of differing views. It is a very important subject, because the ideas people have about "last things" have an impact on how they live. Our ultimate concern is that we all share Peter's perspective:

And so since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives we should be living! ... We, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness will dwell. Wherefore, beloved, since you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blemeless (2 Pet. 3:11,13-14).

Watch for updated information about this conference in coming issues of Searching Together. If you plan to attend, let us know as soon as possible. If you would like to make a presentation, contact me by phone, email, or letter. Some of the available motels are listed below.

Ditch the Garbage! - Too many people are proud of their humility - I, on the other hand, am not humble - and am proud of it!

"Luther's New Testament was so much multiplied and spread by printers that even tailors and shoemakers, yea, even women and ignorant persons who had accepted this new Lutheran gospel, and could read a little German, studied it with the greatest avidity as the fountain of all truth. Some committed it to memory, and carried it about in their bosom. In a few months such people deemed themselves so learned that they were not ashamed to dispute about faith and the gospel not only with Catholic laymen, but even with priests and monks and doctors of divinity." - A complaint by German humanist Johann Cochlaeus.

Doug, I imagine it will be held at the bookstore... most definitely at Taylors Falls, MN.

Oh, how I would love to be there! But it's highly unlikely. Any chance that there will be tapes available?

I imagine there will be... I'll ask Jon about it.

Also, I would love to go also, but am not sure about it yet.

No, I didn't go... things came up and I didn't find an opportunity. Besides I think it was too large a topic to discuss in such a small period of time - so I doubt you missed much. You can certainly contact Zens and I'm sure you can get the tapes.
