Question If anyone is still catholic after this...

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/08/19/com....ap/index.html

    I'm speechless.

Can anyone give me a good explanation as to the communion and what its importance is within the catholic church? I have read a little on the subject; perhaps the reason I am posting this story is to try and understand why this kind of story doesn't cause a massive backlash in the catholic community. It would seem that this would reveal the true nature of the church, a nature that I can't imagine anyone would want to be associated with.

(from the CNN article)"This is a church rule, not God's will, and it can easily be adjusted to meet the needs of the people, while staying true to the traditions of our faith," Pelly-Waldman wrote in the letter.
the reason why it doesn't cause a backlash in my opinion is that, though the Mother appears to be able to discern that wheat is not mentioned in scripture, she is completely blinded to the absolute authority of scripture and holds the traditions of the 'church' in equal regard. It causes no backlash within the RCC because they're all equally blind.

    From the article:

"Church doctrine holds that Communion wafers, like the bread served at the Last Supper, must have at least some unleavened wheat. Church leaders are reluctant to change anything about the sacrament."

    "Some unleavened wheat"

Doesn't a little leaven the whole lump?

    Man... Talk about getting baboozled.

It is what that little wafer transforms into literally that ought to upset the Catholics...the actual "body" literally of Christ. The cup of wine into the "blood" literally of Christ. that is what is wrong with their lies in the "communion"...they re-sacrifice Christ himself to the members every "mass".

Scott, that was a good one about the unleavened wheat!

As for me, I want to sue the Vatican (not for money, but for writings!)--but I have never seen any person of the least 'worldly' influence who champions the cause behind the reason I wish to pursue this action. The Vatican is a law unto itself, so I don't think even the World Court can touch their domain. But they have many documents in their vaults which really belong to Christians at large. They were forced to release the Bible manuscripts they had hidden for over a thousand years in the early part of the 20th century. This only happened because so many manuscripts of ancient origin had already been uncovered, so their code of silence on the manuscript issue was no longer relevant.

Not so on a host of other issues. There are writings there preserved of dozens, hundreds (?), perhaps thousands of nonconformists whom they and the Alexandrian hierarchy censured or put to death. Thus we have a 'church history' that is nothing but historical revisionism. The writings preserved are mostly of those gospel-haters like Justin whom the papacy loves.

There are many unexplained questions if the history of dogma is examined honestly. All we need is the Word, miraculously preserved by God, to assure us of what the true gospel is. But I hope and pray that one day God will expose the lies of the insitutional church for all the world to see.
Now see here how sleepy-headed all our opponents are, and how little it helps a man to rely on the ancient fathers, for all their repute down the course of the ages! Were they not all equally blind to, yes, and heeldess of, Paul's clearest and and plainest words?
