    Is the ECLA apostate?

In recent news, the ECLA voted down gay church membership as well as ordaining gay clergy. However, after reading some posts on the ECLA.org online forum, some writers appear to have little or no discernment concerning scripture.

Anyone have experience with the ECLA and whether it is still orthodox?

The ELCA never was orthodox. The formation of the ELCA is one of the few instances where churches left a larger body (LCMS) to form a more liberal body.
For whatever strength of arm he may have who swims in the open sea, yet in time he is carried away and sunk, mastered by the greatness of its waves. Need then there is that we be in the ship, that is, that we be carried in the wood, that we may be able to cross this sea. Now this Wood in which our weakness is carried is the Cross of the Lord, by which we are signed, and delivered from the dangerous tempests of this world.--St. Augustine

Wildboar, could you (or anyone else) elaborate on where the ECLA has been heterodox? The elca.org site lists confessions which appear to right on when it comes to various areas of Christian faith. It sounds like they deny in practice what they appear to confess. Please elaboarate.

    Don't yoy mean ELCA?

Well I don't know many Lutheran sects that deny Free-Will, most teach it. That is heresy. Most are sacramentalists. Most elevate confessions over scripture. Just to name a few. They may not come right out and say it on thier website, but that is the case for many heretical sects.

    Re: Is the ECLA apostate?

The ELCA was founded on the basis of historical-critical methods of Biblical interpretation which is why it began to ordain women shortly after its creation. Some of their professors and pastors took part in the Jesus Seminar which called the Gospels into question, catagorizing the very statements as something Jesus would or would not have said. The ELCA is the largest and most liberal Lutheran denomination.
