Isaiah 45:7: I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Well, what differentiates us from those who died before us? How did they have the authority to judge what should be considered canon? Why don't we have that same authority?Originally Posted by MCoving
So why aren't you roman catholic? Seriously, that is the exact same argument the roman catholics use for their entire religion. Why limit this argument to just the canon?Originally Posted by MCoving
Why? Just because? I believe most of the Bible is indeed inspired Scripture because it testifies of the Gospel. But I don't accept it because everyone else does or because it's been in book form for a few centuries now. I embrace the Bible based on my own research, not blind acceptance of tradition.Originally Posted by Mary
This is an assertion that you have not based upon scripture at all! Where in the Bible do you have the authority to make this claim? Personally, I think God was brilliant by having false religionists write the book of James and include it in the canon. The elect read it and either reject it, or they misunderstand it and are not harmed by its teachings. The reprobate read it and they are carried away by its false doctrine into destruction. Look at the history of the cults Mary, you will see that all of them use James as their foundation.Originally Posted by Mary
But it was the case. You can trust the Gospel of Christ, and you can lean upon that. Do not put your trust in a collection of books Mary. Put your trust in Christ. Learn of Him and His accomplished salvation. That which is to be seen as Scripture will be made evident to you.Originally Posted by Mary

Well, I think it would be a safer bet to accept only the books that you know for sure rather than the whole bible without knowing. I do not accept the bible simply because it exists. I accept most of the books in the bible because they are in line with the Gospel of Christ. James happens to be one that I do not accept because it is out of line with the Gospel.Originally Posted by Mary
Some call me a heretic over this. That is fine, I don't care. It's my life, and it's my family. Let me stand and fall by my doctrine.

"Luther's New Testament was so much multiplied and spread by printers that even tailors and shoemakers, yea, even women and ignorant persons who had accepted this new Lutheran gospel, and could read a little German, studied it with the greatest avidity as the fountain of all truth. Some committed it to memory, and carried it about in their bosom. In a few months such people deemed themselves so learned that they were not ashamed to dispute about faith and the gospel not only with Catholic laymen, but even with priests and monks and doctors of divinity." - A complaint by German humanist Johann Cochlaeus.
