Ok, I suppose I should state my obscure point.

As is the case with all organizations, all of which are "political".

What I was attempting to point out earlier is only this. Yes they will do these things. It's regretable but expected in view of human nature which is self agrandizing, vain, sinful and rebellious. We will try to put ourselves in charge all the time. Only God's chastening of us and teaching will moderate this tendency in life.

So when we are put under people who have put themselves in the "seat of Moses", in the denomination we subscribe to, we shouldn't be surprised when they do things like this. We should stay in and advocate within our described role until they cast us out or we are victorious for the truth. That is assuming we are pushing for the truth ourselves.

What's the PCA and the Federal Version?

Is this "church" stuff or something?

    Robert Higby:

With my limited contact with those in the FV movement--there seems to be a true desire to be catholic (with a little c). I don't see them as desiring to put those outside of their fellowship who disagree with them. It really seems to be the opposers who are more likely to do that.
For whatever strength of arm he may have who swims in the open sea, yet in time he is carried away and sunk, mastered by the greatness of its waves. Need then there is that we be in the ship, that is, that we be carried in the wood, that we may be able to cross this sea. Now this Wood in which our weakness is carried is the Cross of the Lord, by which we are signed, and delivered from the dangerous tempests of this world.--St. Augustine

    It's or something.

But on further review it's also "church" stuff.

    I'm so confused.

The PCA is the Presbyterian Church in America--a denomination that claims to subscribe to the Westminster Standards but is heavily influenced by evangelical Zwinglianism. The FV is the federal vision--a group of guys from various denominations (some in the PCA) that believe that election should primarily be viewed through the lens of the covenant. It has little to no relevance if you don't buy into covenant theology.

Re: The PCA General Assembly Meets in Memphis this Month on Federal Vision

In all respect, what you are pointing out here means nothing today WB. I'm not denying that there is a certain level of historical accuracy in what you are saying if we are talking about the distant past.

ALL of the power today in the PCA lies in the presbyteries, not in the General Assembly. That situation is the fruit of a very long history of what has developed politically in a church organization and I don't want to go over the fine details of it now--of course, I DON'T CARE!

The GA is never going to start dismantling individual presbyteries one-by-one by dismissing pastor members who support FV--if anyone knows anything about the PCA we KNOW that will never happen! I can guarantee you that there are a significant number of presbyteries where the majority either support fully or have some sympathy for FV doctrine (including & especially--Missouri but also Southern, Southeastern, and West Coast presbyteries). The senior members of such presbyteries (even Presidents!) are intimidated, hated, and mocked by the larger number of their younger FV opponents. This is not going to change. The situation has gone on for too long to reverse.

Almost every young graduate of Presbyterian and Reformed seminaries that I have come to know anything about (their doctrine) for the last 5 years is either sympathetic to or fully supports NPP doctrine and a whole lot of other compromising paradox theology. The Reformed denominations have created this situation by their own lusting after strange doctrine and will not be able to reverse it.
Now see here how sleepy-headed all our opponents are, and how little it helps a man to rely on the ancient fathers, for all their repute down the course of the ages! Were they not all equally blind to, yes, and heeldess of, Paul's clearest and and plainest words?

I'm going to sign off on this topic. Others may post whatever they want in opposition to what I have said.

Eileen, congratulations on your accurate prediction that the report would be adopted by the PCA General Assembly!
