    Exclamation Charles Finney

    I read this today....WOW! ...

    http://www.mtio.com/articles/aissar81.htm

Some of those Charles Finney quotes absolutely floored me! He was an outright heretic, no doubt about it!

I think "heretic" is putting it lightly.

    Re: Charles Finney

Certainly, if this article is true, it is a shocking legacy of what Finney stood for. His "gospel" appears as no gospel at all. What is written here is in complete opposition to the gospel of Grace.

This is why we need to read our bibles, and know God for ourselves. It is so, so, so easy to just sit in a church and take everything as gospel. I remember when I first started as a Christian, that a man behind the pulpit with a bible in his hand must be telling the truth. It is only when you take the trouble to read the bible and ask God for His wisdom, that you can see what is true.

Unless the bible told us that there would be false prophets and false teachers in the churches, we would never believe it to be possible. It is only by grace that the Lord shows us these things through the mirror of His Word and by illumination through the Holy Spirit.

I was watching the TV, where the TV preacher was talking about his hearers "accepting Christ".

It is more a question of whether Christ has accepted us. That is the real question. The assurance that we have of our salvation, is that Christ has poured out His abundant grace on us. He causes us to be changed. As we abide in Him and Him abiding in us, our lights will shine. We will be perfect in our person ONLY when we get to heaven, though we are declared righteous NOW. Thank God for the robes of righteousness that have been wrapped around us by Christ, and that He has cleansed us with His Blood, making us perfect in Him. Hallelujah!

Let us glorify God and glory in the Joy of His Salvation!

May the Lord Bless you ALWAYS,

    Love in Christ,

    Kevin .

I know what you mean, Kevin, we tend to want to believe what others say, especially if they are holding a Bible in their hand....

I knew that today's "church" is confused, to put it mildly, maybe duped would be a better word!

But many MANY people honor and respect Billy Graham, and there are many who love "Pastor" Falwell....sigh... not to say any of us are perfect or incapable of blundering by saying something not in accordance with the truth of God's word now and then, we are human, that's true....but the problem is like you say, no one checks these people against the actual word of God....like the Bereans were commended for doing (Acts 17:11) Nowadays you will be called a "heresy hunter" or "talebearer" for telling the truth about their erroneous doctrines, and what the Bible actually says. But Jesus said if we even choose our family members above the truth, we are not worthy of Him! So even if all our family and friends ends up rejecting us for standing for the truth, it's the way it's supposed to be, so it's all good

Thanks Kevin for your most pertinent and accurate evaluation of Finney's teaching! I was first exposed to his false doctrine while attending college (1975-76) and have abhorred everything about his 'awakening' message ever since. Anyone here heard of Finney's 'anxious bench'? It was the forerunner of the altar call!

On the issue of popular contemporary ministers in the media who promote worship of the human will as the determining factor in salvation (Graham, Falwell, Robertson, Osteen, Schuller, and dozens of others) we have consistently opposed all of them as false teachers here at p-net.
Now see here how sleepy-headed all our opponents are, and how little it helps a man to rely on the ancient fathers, for all their repute down the course of the ages! Were they not all equally blind to, yes, and heeldess of, Paul's clearest and and plainest words?

    Re: Charles Finney

One of the first systematic theologies I read was Finney's (downloaded from E-sword, I think) after my pastor at the time (Independent Fundamentalist) talked glowingly about him and his work during one of his sermons. Needless to say, I discussed Finney's Pelagian theology with my pastor and that was the beginning of the end of my relationship with the pastor and eventually the church.
