Article: Mystery, Paradox, and the Free Offer of the Gospel

The gospel is to be preached indiscriminately to the elect and to the reprobate: but the elect alone come to Christ, because they have been taught of God. - John Calvin

Instead, throughout scripture, again and again we are shown that all mysteries are made known and are revealed to the elect.
    What about this?

"So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself. For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly: for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.] Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly."

Re: Article: Mystery, Paradox, and the Free Offer of the Gospel

Without elaborating in an honest confusion between issues pertaining to our SALVATION, i.e. SOTERIOLOGICAL ISSUES, and general issues, EVERYTHING related to our SALVATION and Godliness has been REVEALED to us. Paul speaks about things that our understanding here on earth cannot grasp and this is NOT paradox neither a "mystery" concerning God's Redemptive Plan. Example: our peace is beyond understanding, that doesn't mean that our peace is mysterious. (Phil 4:7).

The defenders of "mystery and paradox" use this argument to inject objections to the Gospel doctrines of Double Predestination, Particular Redemption (I prefer Limited Atonement), Preservation of the Saints, and a few other doctrines in which the proponents of "mystery and paradox" find difficulty in "accepting".

The day that I conclude that God hid something from me as to my TOTAL DEPRAVITY, my unconditional predestination, the sacrifice Jesus made to exclusively save me and how and if He can, or is able to preserve me to the end, even with the weakness of my flesh, then ON THAT DAY, I have become an unbeliever.

I used to think that Paradoxes and Mysteries were a theory devised by Cornelius Van Till, whose writings, I must admit, I never read directly, but have studied nonetheless from trustworthy sources, but today these two "twin evil Siamese sisters" have crept in the entire scope of "churchianity". When you don't understand, don't accept, or cannot see the "light", or WANT TO MAKE LIGHT OF ANY DOCTRINE FOR POPULARITY SAKE, simply scream BLOODY PARADOX AND MYSTERY!

For the auditors of every word I write, let me make if plain: NOTHING, in thel GOSPEL DOCTRINE is paradoxical or mysterious. The Holy Writings are about THE GOSPEL DOCTRINE, so by necessity, THERE IS NO PARADOXES OR MYSTERIES in the HOLY WRITINGS.

    Thanks,

The terms "mystery" and "paradox" are the words used in place of "I don't believe the Scripures and the God who wrote them is a liar!" Thank you Milt.

    Nice.
