    Isaiah 45:7: I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

    Re: Did the Ancient Israelites Drink Beer?

    The ancient Israelites drank beer, wine, and spirits somewhat freely:

    I have read archaeological studies providing evidence that the Israelites drank beer out of vessels prepared exclusively for it (like our 'stein')--they did this when going into battle.

    It has been proven that alcohol is of little or no benefit in destroying bacteria. However, the ancient beer contained tetracycline because of the difference in grain storage and fermentation method from what is practiced today:

    Beer and wine are parallel substances as expressed in Isaiah:

    Isaiah 24:8-10 (New International Version)
    8 The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled,
    the noise of the revelers has stopped,
    the joyful harp is silent.
    9 No longer do they drink wine with a song;
    the beer is bitter to its drinkers.
    10 The ruined city lies desolate;
    the entrance to every house is barred

    God sanctioned the use of both wine and strong drink in celebrations paid for with the tithe:

    Deut 14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household . . .

    The Nazarite vow is poorly understood. It was strictly a vow to avoid consumption of any food or drink containing the grape. Apparently, the 'strong drink' of ancient Israel was made at least partly of grapes (i.e., brandy). Alcohol itself is NOT forbidden in the Nazarite vow. Beer, wine made from fruit or vegetables other than grapes, and spirits made from fruit or grain other than grapes were not forbidden.

    Numbers 6:3 (King James Version)
    He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
    And if we now cast our eyes over the nations of the earth, we shall find that, instead of possessing the pure religion of the Gospel, they may be divided either into infidels, who deny the truth; or politicians who make religion a stalking horse for their ambition; or professors, who walk in the trammels of orthodoxy, and are more attentive to traditions and ordinances of men than to the oracles of truth.

    I find this thread intoxicating! drinking-50..gif
    Rom 8:18-21, (NASB), For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
