    Trinity and Paradox Theology.

While I sympathize strongly with a suspicion of paradox theology (though I know most here have more than a "suspicion" of it), I have a hard time thinking of a non-paradoxical explanation of the Trinity. I'm totally down with God's will of decree being identical with his good pleasure, rather than the "two wills" dealy, I don't think double predestination poses any "problem" of evil(there is no "problem" whatsoever), but I can't think of a non-counterintuitive explanation of the Trinity. Can any of you guys help me out?

    Re: Trinity and Paradox Theology.

    Daniel,

You have not stated why you think that a biblical teaching of the Trinity is paradoxical. So it is hard to reply until you have expressed that.

To start with a simple proposition--if the scriptures reveal these truths:

    1. God is infinite and therefore no other god can exist.
    2. God is immutable.
    3. The Father is God.
    4. The Son Jesus Christ is God.
    5. The Holy Spirit is God.

Then, the conclusion is that God wills in His sovereign and infinite wisdom to manifest Himself as a Trinity, three personalities. Since nothing is impossible for God, the fact that God wills to self-exist and relate to His creation as a Triune being is something that we accept because it is taught in Godīs revelation.

Why do you think the Trinity is a somewhat paradoxical teaching?

Now see here how sleepy-headed all our opponents are, and how little it helps a man to rely on the ancient fathers, for all their repute down the course of the ages! Were they not all equally blind to, yes, and heeldess of, Paul's clearest and and plainest words?
