Hello, I have a question.
Which English Bible is very exact?
I heard it is the: KING JAMES, what about the NEW KING JAMES or the INTERNATIONAL VERSION?
Who can help me and give me right arguments?
Thank you in advance!

For the most part, your mainstream Bibles are reliable.
The KJV is a time-honored, worthy translation.
However, some of the newer translations I would consider even better. We have more knowledge, and newer findings and understanding as well as more ancient texts to go back and double check and verify with.
The NASB to me is the best and is a more literal translation.
The NIV is another real good one that is a more dynamic (thought for thought, rather than word for word) translation. But it has proven to be reliable.
The New King James is much like the old KJV but they have taken out the "thees" and "thous".
The New Living Translation isn't too bad, but seems like they have taken a lot of liberty in the translation process and "watered down" some things. That's just my opinion.
Like I said, your mainstream translations are generally reliable and trustworthy. Myself, I use the NASB (New American Standard Bible) mostly...but keep the other translations (KJV, NKJ, NIV) handy because it just helps get a fuller understanding of a text I am studying.

NIV = New International Version
NKJV = New King James Version
NLT = New Living Translation
NASB = New American Standard Bible
KJV = King James Version
Hope that clarifies things a little!

Thank you very much for the explanation!
Do you know if the New American Standard Bible is so good translated like the KJV?
And maybe you can tell me if there are some of the translations which are also based on the "Textus Receptus", like the KJV?
Thank you for the information in advance.

The best literal translation that I have found is the Young's Literal Translation. It is a word by word translation. You could also look into the Green's Interlinear Bible. This is also a good literal translation with the actual Hebrew and Greek text as well as the English below and Strong's numbers above.
I, like Fledge, use many different ones for study, but usually stick with the NASB when it comes to quotes (although, for emphasis and clarity, I also use the YLT mentioned above). There is a great bible software out called Online Bible. You can download it free here.
Grace to you,

Hello everybody. GOD loves you and JESUS does, too.
Stick to the KING JAMES VERSION. It is anointed. The BIBLE states that we should try the spirits to see whether something is of GOD and the King James Version has GOD'S approval. Also, some of those "new" versions "add" and "take-away" from the original meanings.
Rev 22:18-19
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
(KJV)
God bless to all brothers an sisters!
The King James Version is based on the "Textus Receptus", but there are any scriptures which are older then this one.
I do not know what to think about it. At the one hand it is important that nobody add or take away something from Gods Word, at the other hand we do not know, which translation is the more honorable..
I wish, I could find the answer to this question.

ProphetesGlynis,
Which KJV? The one that stated, 'Thou shalt commit adultery'? The KJV is not annointed. Neither is it inspired. God uses all different types of bibles to speak to his people. Granted, some are better than others, but one is not better than the rest.
Grace to you,

Odyssey:
First of all, do you know what I am talking about when I say anointed? Yes, there are other BIBLES, but I don't consider the ones with some truth, some error as being anointed by GOD. The King James Version of the BIBLE was examined by my husband with the "original" translations in Hebrew (and Greek) and he says that it comes very close.
Nevertheless, I was not there when the BIBLE was written and neither were you, but the HOLY GHOST was. Since HE (HOLY GHOST) is still alive and remainding on the earth and the BIBLE states that HE (HOLY GHOST) will lead us and guide us into all truth, the HOLY SPIRIT lead me and guided me to use the King James Version of the BIBLE. This is what the BIBLE means when it says to "try" the spirits to see whether they are of GOD. Without faith, it is impossible to please GOD. You first of all, must have faith that the BIBLE is GOD'S, not man's, inspired words. If you don't believe that, you will not have ANY foundation to based your beliefs.
Also, if you have not received the gift of the HOLY SPIRIT, it will make it totally impossible to discern the LORD'S voice clearly from satan's. Are you filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, Odyssey? One someone is filled with the gift of the HOLY SPIRIT, he/she will be able to distinguish from the spirit of truth and error.
In conclusion, the person asked, "which...Bible????" and I am telling them the King James Version.
I too would vote for the KJV or Modern KJV. The reasons stem from source document origins, textual history, and what the Bible claims for itself. What is sad for the English speaking population is that while the number of English books called Bible continues to grow [> 300 today], the average Biblical literacy of church members continues to decline. We shall know them by their fruits, and these other books seem to have little.

The only problem I have with the KJV is a few of the words have changed in meaning since the day of its translation. Example, the word judgement throughout the NT is often better translated as justice. I wish I could remember some of the exact scriptures, my minister went over a few of them one Sunday, and I don't remember writing them down. There is nothing wrong with the KJV I use it as a second source all the time. I mainly use the NASB because it is translated word for word by the only Bible that was written by God and that's the Greek. No translation was ever annointed as far as we know. The origional Greek and Hebrew versions are though. My church has tons of the origional Greek text with the translation in English next to it and a dictionary that tells the tense and weather it is a spiritual or physical word. It's really interesting to read through and realize if Paul is refering to something that happens in the past that goes on forever or weather he means something that happened at one point and will never change.
In my opinion, the best translation is the Young's Literal Translation. It is a real eye opener when compared to most other translations, including the KJV.
Grace to you all,
jak
I have come to really like the YLT. Although, I still prefer the NAS.
Ditch the Garbage! - Too many people are proud of their humility - I, on the other hand, am not humble - and am proud of it!
"Luther's New Testament was so much multiplied and spread by printers that even tailors and shoemakers, yea, even women and ignorant persons who had accepted this new Lutheran gospel, and could read a little German, studied it with the greatest avidity as the fountain of all truth. Some committed it to memory, and carried it about in their bosom. In a few months such people deemed themselves so learned that they were not ashamed to dispute about faith and the gospel not only with Catholic laymen, but even with priests and monks and doctors of divinity." - A complaint by German humanist Johann Cochlaeus.

The ESV. I know plenty of Westminster Seminary folk who are jumping on that bandwagon.
I am almost ready with my NKJV, so I am diciding which to read next, to get a better understanding of the Bible.
I read already one russian translation (they have just two) which is so trusworthy like KJV, then 2 german translations (Luther), which is also like KJV and (Elberfelder) - which is translated word by word. The last which I am studying now is the NKJV.
I would like to study a really good (word by word) english translation, who can tell me which it is? I just know german and russian translations which are really good (Germans have 2 very good and one like KJV - then there is a rest of 47 other different translations where I can not say if they are ok.)
Thank you in advance and God bless!
Andre

The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is a good literal translation. It isn't 100% word for word, as sentence structure between english and Biblical languages are vastly different at many times. But it is a very good, trustworthy, literal translation.

The NIV would be a good one to study, but it is more of a dynamic translation, and not so much word for word.
There is also Young's Literal Translation, but I've never been real fond of that. I still think the NAS (New American Standard) is the best bet.
The KJV is defeinitely not my first choice. It uses such old, obsolete language, and it really isn't the best translation available. It is not a bad translation, it is wonderful. I just think there are better though.

God bless you all.
It has been a long time I've been here last time..
So, I am almost ready with my NKJV and look for the next english Bible to read through. I take every time an other translation to read.
My first question is, what is ESV. - is it a word by word translation or not?
My second question is, what Bible is more trust worthy, or what Bible is better translated, I mean what is important to me: that the Bible is translated WORD BY WORD.
I see the NASB is very good (as you said), the Young's Literal Translation and the Green's Interlinear Bible.
Please help me to make a dicision!!
GOD BLESS YOU!

Recently I've fallen in love with the NKJV. I recommend that one highly!
